Overview

The City of London Corporation has approved plans to close and pedestrianise the 1970’s gyratory road around St Paul’s to create the Square Mile’s largest piazza.

The new lighting will create a destination within the city that supports night time activity while also enhancing and elevating the historic context around the square.

A simple and ambitious lighting proposal will create a dramatic view corridor towards St. Paul’s Cathedral and bring new life to Christchurch Greyfriars Gardens and the future monastic gardens. This includes careful mitigation of light spill given the bat sensitive context of the gardens. Lighting solutions are being closely coordinated with garden caretakers, landscape architects, numerous historical committees and City engineers to meet the numerous requirements related to installation, appearance, maintenance and running costs.
