Project details
Overview
The central train station in the city of Lausanne (Gare de Lausanne) is part of the LEMAN 2030 project which will extend the current station in response to a significant increase in traffic by 2030.
Working in collaboration with Radiance 35, a lighting design studio based in Belgium, it was agreed that light would play an important role in the atmosphere of the spaces both by day and night and while the strict lighting levels were to be achieved a layer of lighting to highlight the architectural features was a critical element. The project aims between our two studios were to highlight the existing historic facade, the new facade design, improved platforms and the Grande Hall which included the subterranean connection routes.
LFB have designed the lighting for the improved station platforms using both down and uplight components to achieve a welcoming experience for travellers. A temporary lighting scheme has also been proposed for the historic Grande Hall.
